BigSkyMomma

I am a 5th generation rancher, ranch wife, mother, and I would love to share my knowledge and experiences with other ranch women and mommas.

Hannah

All About Me

So, let’s start at the beginning! I was adopted. My adoptive parents were unable to have children of their own so they decided to adopt. My birth mom was 15 years old when she had me and she knew that giving me up for adoption was the right choice for both her and me. It turns out that I was adopted by a family that the most beautiful ranch in Central Montana. Little Hannah grew up walking the endless miles of cow trails that wandered aimlessly across the pastures. My best friends were my animals and I had the best mare growing up. She knew to never ever hurt me but she was always testing me. Not letting herself get caught, not wanting to cross creeks, not getting out of creeks, crowhopping just enough to dump me, biting me during showmanship. There are endless stories of Agate and I, but she was the best girl that always took the best care of me.

Let’s jump ahead a bit

When I was in high school I was involved in everything that I could be. Basketball, volleyball, track, 4-H, FFA, BPA, whatever it was, I was probably doing it. Fast forward to college… I hated college. Typically, I am not a person that ever hates anything but I did NOT like college. I loved the people I met in college. I didn’t mind the classes and I loved my writing class. The parties were always fun and we had several adventures. In reality I hated not being home. So when my dad asked me to come home and help with lambing during the spring semester, I was all for it. (We didn’t even tell mom until after the fact) I never went back to college but I did complete cosmetology school and loved it and I loved doing hair. I owned a little hair salon in Stanford for almost 10 years. After having my daughter, I decided that it was time to be with my little ones full time and I closed down my little salon.

Jumping ahead one more time

Speaking of children. When I met my now husband, he had two beautiful girls from a previous marriage. I always say that I fell in love with them first. I met my husband when my dad hired him as our hired hand. Yes, yes my husband did marry the ranchers daughter. (Thanks Dad for hiring the best one!) We had a beautiful wedding in my dads front yard, the front yard I grew up playing in. We had quite the party with over 600 people that came to support us. Fast forward six years and we have added 2 more munchkins to the mix. The most handsome, big hearted guy and the sweetest, most beautiful little girl. They completed our family.

Well there you go. There’s my story summarized in a couple paragraphs. I could have gone on for hours but then what would I actually put in my blog?!

The Spoiled Mama

Here’s My Why

Honestly, a blog was something that I never thought I would ever do. What would I write about?! When I started reading other people’s blogs and I realized that I could write about anything! Growing up on a ranch means I have stories, lots of stories from getting to watch calves be born in the middle of a starry night to losing my old mare. And of course being a mom means that I have stories… pregnancy stories, birth stories, poop stories, the list goes on and on. But really, why did I decide to start a blog?! Really I think it boils down to, I wanted a sense of freedom. To be able to stay home with my kids, be able to run lunches to my dad and husband in the hay field. But not even all that, I have discovered that writing is a good release for me. When I write down my thoughts, worries, why I’m angry, it helps me get control of the situation and take a step back to realize that everything is going to be alright. I can’t wait to share my stories, dreams, fears, hopes, dreams, and ideas with anyone that will listen. Hopefully it’ll help someone else break free and find what they love too!!
